Media Release: Veteran Administrator George Ross Lunchbox Theatre’s New General Manager

Calgary, AB – Lunchbox Theatre Board Chair, Kim Davies is pleased to welcome George Ross to Lunchbox’s team as General Manager, and would like to congratulate outgoing General Manager, Bonni Baynton Sprague, on her new role as Director of Production at the Calgary Opera.

Mr. Ross brings a wealth of experience in theatre management to Lunchbox.  He worked many years at the Banff Centre for the Arts in a variety of roles including summer faculty member in the Opera and Academy of Singing, Manager of Theatre and Literary Arts, and Associate Director of Theatre Arts. Most recently, Ross was Co-Managing Director of Sage Theatre in Calgary from 2009-2011. Ross holds a Masters of Music from the University of British Columbia and also previously worked in a variety of roles with the Vancouver Opera, from Chorus Member to Stage Director.

A committed member of the arts community outside of his professional roles, Ross has been on theatre arts advisory committees for Mount Royal University, Grant McEwan College and the Western Region of the Canadian Music Centre.

Ross will be taking on his full-time duties at Lunchbox Theatre beginning July 11th 2011.

“Lunchbox Theatre is thrilled to have found someone with the breadth of experience that George has to offer,” says Lunchbox President, Kim Davies. “George’s knowledge and insight will provide a solid foundation for the organization administratively as we continue to build on Lunchbox Theatre’s success.”

Lunchbox Theatre’s 2011/2012 season opens on September 19th, 2011 with Peril in Paris, a world premiere musical comedy by Calgarians Ethan Cole and Eric Rose.  Peril in Paris runs September 19th to October 15th, Monday to Saturday at 12:10pm with ‘Happy Hour’ performances Friday at 6:10pm and ‘Date Night’ performances Saturday at 7:30 pm. Lunchbox launches a new partnership with the Palliser Hotel on Tuesday September 20th, the first ‘High Tea Tuesday’.

The world’s longest running lunchtime theatre, Lunchbox Theatre is a professional company that caters to downtown office workers over the noon-hour by producing seven plays per year as well as the Suncor Energy Stage One Festival and the Emerging Director Program. Lunchbox Theatre is located at the base of the Calgary Tower.
