Suncor Stage One Festival

Submissions for 2016/2017

Lunchbox Theatre is currently inviting playwrights to submit one-act plays for consideration for the Suncor Stage One Festival of New Work, celebrating its 30th year. Each year, through the generous support of Suncor, Lunchbox Theatre is able to workshop new scripts that have the potential for inclusion in future programming at Lunchbox Theatre.

All chosen playwrights receive dramaturgical support, a weeklong workshop with a professional director and actors, followed by a free public reading. Stage One will take place June 5 -24, 2017. Up to 9 plays will be chosen for development, with 3 workshops per week over a 3-week period. Successful applicants should be available to attend the full week of workshops and reading. Consideration of availability is given as to scheduling and Lunchbox Theatre will assist in the cost of travel.

All plays must eventually run approximately 50 – 55 minutes. Submission should be suitable for Lunchbox Theatre audiences – excessive use of foul language or nudity may limit the possibility of production.

PLEASE NOTE – only scripts submitted by playwrights with Canadian residence will be considered. Scripts should be submitted in hard copy.

All applications should include:

• Playwright’s resume
• History of any development the script has received thus far
• Premise of the play
• Plot outline for the basic structure of the play
• Minimum of 20 pages of script for the piece being submitted – a full script is preferred.

 Deadline: February 24, 2017

Please submit applications in hard copy form to:
