A vulnerable, hilarious guided tour through the complicated history of southern Alberta.
Back by popular demand, RIBSTONE is an intimate storytelling performance from one of Calgary’s best loved entertainers. Music and history come together as Christopher Hunt weaves tales of his family’s ranching roots. With old-time folksiness, old-time music, and old-time humour, Christopher retells the story of Alberta with modern eyes, stopping to spin a yarn or two along the way. From a butcher shop in Calgary to a long-vanished Blackfoot sacred site, RIBSTONE asks: What do we inherit? What do we forget? And what stories are ours to tell?
A classic holiday tale reimagined for the radio.
It’s the Golden Age of Radio, and a local station is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the publication of Dickens’ beloved classic A Christmas Carol with a live broadcast. In this brand-new adaptation by Lunchbox Artistic Director Bronwyn Steinberg, three multi-talented actors take on the story’s iconic characters while also creating the foley sound effects live on stage. Experience Scrooge’s Christmas Eve journey in radio play form this holiday season.
A surprising, personal performance exploring Indigenous identity.
Award-winning Cree artist Michelle Thrush weaves real-life memories with laughter, grace, and playfulness to explore her inner Elder. From a childhood spent searching for Indigenous representation while flipping through television channels, to first finding success as an actor while being cast as a stereotype of her culture, Thrush brings her story to life with vivid humour as she navigates a world of substance abuse, aliens, and the spiritual presence of her guiding grandmothers. No audience is prepared for what happens when Thrush finally embodies her inner Elder.
A story of a young artist in a family that doesn’t understand her art.
One of twelve children, Bekah discovers her calling early on. She’s meant to be a painter. But her mother tells her that painting won’t “change the world,” leading Bekah to delve into questions of what living a practical life truly entails. Oh Mother! is an outlandish comedy that follows the (mostly) true story of multidisciplinary artist Rebbekah Ogden from Lethbridge to Saskatchewan and finally to Lunchbox where she will unravel her complex history while painting her imaginary friend, plucked straight from the audience.
A hilarious, contemplative love story between old friends.
Marv and Ev have shared half a life together. But even now, in their 70s, there are still things that remain unsaid between them. Marv, a nervous man with a big heart, and Ev, a guarded woman with a surly demeanor, are fishing in the waters off the west coast when things take a turn for the strange. Soon they are alone on the water, until they are visited by a mysterious stranger. Part buddy comedy and part Twilight Zone episode, Marv & Ev is a heartfelt celebration of life and death.
